Caitríona Breathnach and . My name is Caitriona Breathnach and I’m the owner of ANU Earth.
I make by hand all of my products, using safe, natural, plant based ingredients, therapeutic essential oils and the nutrient dense seaweed, Carrageen Irish Moss.
Over the years, I developed reactions to ingredients in skincare products and after having children, I wondered about the unnecessary chemicals in the everyday things my family were using; things as basic as soap and bubble bath, so I learnt how to provide a better alternative by creating cold processed soap, handmade balms and moisturisers that are safe, natural and what’s more – actually good for skin. Every ingredient is added for its specific skin benefit. What is not added is equally important.
I started a small business to test the market for natural skincare and my customers loved the results, from improving psoriasis, to a healthy glow, it was tolerated by sensitive skin, reduced acne breakouts for some and promoted healing for eczema in others. .
A long time friend and fan, Emer Halpenny encouraged me to develop the range and re-brand my business. Together we founded ANU Earth, named after the Goddess of land and sea, ANU, earth mother of the Celts.
We conducted clinical trials, added a natural eco soy wax candle range and perfume oil and in 2018 secured a shop in the Marlay Park Courtyard (which I still share with Patricia Fitzgerald of Healing Creations). Here, customers can return their empty candles and skincare containers for credit in a refill to reuse scheme.
Emer and I worked together until the start of the Pandemic. She is still the voice of the brand and looks after my social media.
Like the Goddess Anu, we hope to bring health, renewal and the secrets of inner beauty to the world.
